Good Start for Survivor Philippines!
Survivor Philippines started with two of the most predictable twist and turns. Like Survivor Amazon, the eighteen castaways are divided based on their gender, Naak (meaning "snake" is the women's tribe) and Jarakay (means "crocodile" for the men's). This is not a new twist to me but it's okay, I am not expecting great highlights. Maybe, they will eventually do the unexpected in the near future.
Second, the castaways were not formally informed that their 39 days has begun and they think they were only having an interview at Ko Tarutao, Thailand. Again, this is not a surprising event to me and I have already seen it in the past.
On a positive note, the premiere of Survivor Philippines is good (5 stars out of 10). The opening intro and overall editing are not impressive compared to the original US edition yet it seems unfair to compare the two, the US version of Survivor has already created a huge name of their own and has produced several unforgettable characters like Parvati Shallow, Aras Baskauskas, Heidi Strobel, and Rob Cesternino.
Back to Survivor Philippines, the eighteen castaways seem likeable but I haven't have any remarkable favorites yet. I have some first-impression favorites as I am reading their profiles at survivorphilippines.com (unofficial survivor philippines blog) but these choices are not yet final. In fact, as of September 16, 2008, a number of viewers voted two of my short-term picks as the hottest castaways of the season. Nikki Dacullo, the call center cutie of Cebu City got 41.5% and JC Tiuseco, the heartthrob basketball hunk of San Sebastian University garnered 42.9%.
Honestly, most of my favorites in US Survivor Borneo 'till Micronesia have made it to the jury or final two; unluckily, this is not the case in Survivor Philippines, it's too early to root for a strong contender and I am still figuring out not only the best but the optimus prime who can outsmart the bests.
This is absolutely a tough game of Pautakan, Pagalingan at Patatagalan!
